THE FAIR

COME SHARE YOUR ENERGY!

Paths and solutions for energy inclusion of Amazonian communities

The Fair/Symposium ENERGIA & COMUNIDADES will promote an important meeting: that of a growing clientele with the market of products and services aimed at the generation of alternative energy – solar, wind and small scale biomass, off grid etc, in isolated and remote systems. It will also influence policy review and prioritization.

In the Amazon, thousands of villages and indigenous, riverside and traditional communities, especially in remote regions and not served by the National Interconnected System (SIN), want to replace diesel generation, which promotes large emissions of greenhouse gases and is expensive, leading to a huge impact on the family budget. The Brazilian government estimates that more than one million people still do not have access to electricity.

The market is promising and the context is inviting. The new sources of financing and the increase of income in these localities create new opportunities for the expansion of the alternative sources of energy and business models associated with them. They strengthen the autonomy of communities, generate income, promote quality of life and sustainable development.

THE COMMITTEE

Good ideas need good partners to happen!

In order to help point out ways and solutions to overcome energy exclusion and dependence on diesel oil in remote areas of the Amazon, a strong group of organized civil society organizations, indigenous organizations, universities and international supporters have come together to hold the Symposium – Energy Solutions for Communities of the Amazon. Meet the Organizing Committee and be inspired to participate in this unique meeting!

“This fair will be a unique opportunity to approach the energy demands of the communities with the solutions presented by companies and the forms of financing. Clean energy is key for the sustainable development of the Amazonian communities”.
Alessandra da Mota Mathyas, Climate and Energy / WWF
“Join us in the diffusion and promotion of renewable energies that meet the needs of the Peoples and Communities of the Amazon”.
Iremar Antonio Ferreira, Instituto Madeira Vivo – IMV
“The Symposium brings to the center of the debate the energetic exclusion of forest people. And the sum of efforts in search of solutions, complemented also by the Fair”.
Caetano Scannavino Filho, Coordenador Projeto Saúde e Alegria
“The dependence that communities and cities of the Amazon have on fossil fuels is one of the urgent challenges of regional sustainability”.
Adriana Ramos , Instituto Socioambiental/ISA
“Bringing this discussion focused on solutions and opportunities for the heart of the Amazon region is an essential step towards reversing the logic of exclusion”.
Marcelo Laterman Lima, Climate and Energy Campaign - Greenpeace Brasil
“Ending energy exclusion in the Amazon should be an ethical imperative for society, as it is important for strengthening the communities’ economies and for achieving a future with social justice and sustainable development”.
Ciro Campos, Instituto Socioambiental/ISA
“The Brazilian government estimates that around 2 million people still do not have access to electricity, and many more people living in isolated areas are dependent on diesel for intermittent, expensive and dangerous power generation. New technologies and innovations in the use of renewable energy could contribute to solving this issue”.
Traci Romine, Mott Foundation
“This fair will serve as an opportunity to express to society as a whole the reality of energy exclusion that unfortunately thousands of our brothers in various communities across the country are still living under. In addition, it seeks to discuss existing solutions from the perspective of the communities themselves, support organizations, the academy, companies and competent official powers”.
Joilson Costa, Frente por Uma Nova Política Energética
“The generation and use of clean energy by communities improves their living conditions and economic production, preserves their income, increases their autonomy and contributes to reducing the consumption of expensive and polluting fuels such as diesel”.
Marcio Santilli, Instituto Socioambiental/ISA
“Clean energy and available 24 hours is dignity to the thousands of Brazilians who still live with dirty and expensive energy. This is what will actually improve the quality of life of families, increase schooling and increase production, generating more employment and income. “
Joaquim Belo, Presidente do CNS
